Diversity in action
Encouraging diversity among our staff base goes much further than mere ‘box-ticking’ or making vague affirmations about equal opportunities. With 30 different countries being represented on our staff across the company, we are multi-lingual, multi-generational and multi-skilled, so diversity is something we walk as well as talk in every department.
Our pioneering China and Japan Desks are a fine example of our sensitivity towards different cultures. They exist to help investor clients and rental tenants from the Far East conduct business in the London property market in the most frictionless way possible and are staffed by an elite team of multi-lingual speakers.
A global outlook
Central to our business is being on hand for our overseas investor clients and our international offices employ local staff who are hand-picked and trained to work cross-culturally across the business. We see this as the ideal way to create opportunities for skilled individuals from different nationalities and backgrounds and skill levels. With us, we provide all with a chance to be part of something global, inclusive and forward-thinking.
Our strong tech ecosystem
Our custom approach to operating in the property industry plays a key role in streamlining our decision-making and empowering our staff who are located in multiple time zones. Our operations are completely in-house and incorporate dedicated administration, marketing, accounts and credit control departments as well as a web team who work 24/7 to ensure we are always one step ahead of the competition bringing properties to market even when London sleeps. This is a tech eco-system that supports each other and spurs innovation.
Leading by example
Although tech may have helped speed up diversification in the property industry recently, Benham and Reeves’ Managing Director, Anita Mehra, knows that true equality still relies on companies realising just how much of an asset a diverse work force can be. Arriving in the UK as a young woman from India back in the 1970s, she was only too aware that her hopes and dreams would have to be backed up by hard work and determination. Working her way up from accounts clerk to managing director and eventual owner of Benham and Reeves, sees her position as a means to empower others. Her dedication to this goal remains unwavering.
“Diversity is the only way to push our sector forward, because we can only truly flourish when all employees are given the space, time and resources to express themselves and bring their many different experiences to the table”.
