Battersea area guide

Your extensive guide to living in Battersea

Trying to re-brand this Zone 2 neighbourhood as "South Chelsea" may not have been one of the London property industry's smartest moves but Battersea has always had a lot going for it, regardless. Positioned on the southern shore of the River Thames opposite the Chelsea Embankment, Battersea has been boosted by both the redevelopment of its famous power station and the planned extension of the Northern Line Tube from Kennington.

Battersea Park, Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common are three picturesque green spaces that attract young families and form a triangle of prosperity based on good schools, chic eateries and quick transport connections. The fact that corporate professionals are also taking an interest means that the riverside location of Battersea is set to become a key part of the neighbouring Nine Elms regeneration push.

Battersea has two mainline stations that run services into the main rail hubs of Victoria and Waterloo and is therefore within easy reach of both the West End and the City. Clapham Junction Station provides an express link to Gatwick Airport as well as being on the London Overground system that connects all the Capital's major Zone 2 districts.

Local bus routes via Battersea Bridge provide services to Chelsea (10min) and Victoria (15min) and further bus connections to South Kensington, Sloane Square and Piccadilly Circus. The nearest rail stations : Victoria or Clapham Junction.
